Varanasi Clinches State-Level Open Invitational Women’s Kabaddi Championship, Mirzapur Finishes as Runner-Up

Lucknow – The State-Level Open Invitational Women’s Kabaddi Championship, organized in accordance with the directives of the Directorate of Sports, Uttar Pradesh (letter no. 4664/Vibha.Prati/2024-25 dated January 28, 2025), successfully concluded  at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Sports Complex, K.D. Singh Babu Stadium, Lucknow. The tournament witnessed participation from teams representing 10 divisions of Uttar Pradesh.

Semifinal and Final Match Results:

  1. In the first semifinal, Varanasi triumphed over Lucknow with a convincing score of 48-24 to secure a place in the final.
  2. The second semifinal saw Mirzapur defeat Meerut by a significant margin of 39-13, earning its spot in the championship match.
  3. In the grand finale, Varanasi emerged victorious against Mirzapur with a hard-fought 29-24 win, clinching the championship title.

Prior to the final match, Chief Guest Dr. R.P. Singh, Director of Sports, Uttar Pradesh, met with the players and encouraged them. Regional Sports Officer  Animesh Saxena welcomed the Chief Guest with a bouquet. Following the final match, medals and awards were presented to the winners and runners-up, while officials designated by the Kabaddi Association were also honored for their contribution to the successful execution of the tournament.

The event witnessed the presence of several notable dignitaries, including international kabaddi player and coach Rajneesh Mishra, former District Kabaddi Association Secretary  C.G. Shukla, current District Kabaddi Association Secretary  Anup Shukla, along with sports officials and supporters such as  Prem Singh,  Pushpa Yadav,  Bihari Ram Pal,  Hub Lal,  Tinku Kumar,  Nitish Dixit,  Lata Chaudhary, and  Jyoti Nishad, among others.

In his closing remarks,  Animesh Saxena, Regional Sports Officer, expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, players, and all attendees for their active participation and support in making the tournament a grand success.
